The annual Durham Beer Festival is fast approaching. This year's festival features 120 beers as well as 30 ciders and, for the first time, a variety of wines.
The festival, held in the now-familiar venue of Durham Student Union on New Elvet, Durham, will be opened at 6pm on Wednesday by Mark Hird of Tavistock Leisure and a representative from the Lindisfarne Gospels Exhibition.

The Black Lion in Wolsingham won the 2013 CAMRA Durham County Cider Pub of the Year award and was put forward for the regional award, where it faced stiff competition from pubs across North Yorkshire, Cleveland, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. The pub carries up to eight real ciders at a time, and provides mulled cider in winter.
