Established in 1994, The Durham Brewery produces a wide range of cask and bottle-conditioned ales. The brewery has a ten barrel plant but with a 20 barrel Mash Tun for the stronger ales, four 10-barrel fermenters and various conditioning tanks for bottled beer with a warm room for bottle conditioning. All production is onsite, including bottling, and it is company policy that there be no filtration and no pasteurisation. The brewery motto is “Perfected”. The shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9.00am to 4.00pm (sometimes 2.00pm on a Saturday). The bar is open Monday to Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Brewery tours are every Saturday at 11.00am, see the brewery’s website for details. Bottle-conditioned beers are a speciality with a range which goes from light bitter to Russian Stout. More conventional beers include Evensong, which won Gold at GBBF 2005 and Bede’s Chalice which has had awards from British Bottlers’ Institute in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Over 70 awards have been won with details on the brewery's website. Take-home draught is available in 5 litre minikegs. Magus, former beer of the North East, is always available. A custom bottle label service is available for special occasions. For all products, see the online shop at https://durhambrewery.com/shop/.
