Under the shadow of St Nicholas’s Church steeple and parallel with the river Wear is a unique area of Durham known as Fowler’s Yard. Among printmakers, an illustrator, jewellers and other crafts people, Michael Griffin has practiced the art of beer making for 10 years. The brewer has developed regular beers such as PENINSULA PINT, BITTER, DUN COW BITTER, CATHEDRAL ALE, GRIFFIN IRISH STOUT and THAIPA. Together with monthly beer festivals. Sensitive to various events in Durham, the brewer produces event beers such as for example for the Miners’ Gala and Regatta. A regular outlet for the sale of Mini Casks and bottled ales is Durham Indoor Market on Thursday, Friday and Saturday on a stall shared with the Curry Man. THAIPA has proved a very popular brew at the last two Durham Beer Festivals. It is based on Michael’s love of Thai Food and contains such ingredients as lemon grass and kaffir lime leaves.
