The Surtees ArmsChilton Lane, Ferryhill Station, Ferryhill, Co. Durham, DL17 0DH, 01740655724 North East CAMRA Pub of the Year 2010 Durham CAMRA Pub of the Year 2010 and 2011 The Surtees Arms was built in 1872 to slake the thirsts of the local colliery workers around whom the village was constructed, and has been providing refreshment for the Chilton Lane community ever since. It is an important part of the local community and continues to be the place for regulars to meet – and, due to an increased real ale profile, a destination to visit. The Surtees is a friendly, family-run freehold pub providing all manner of refreshments – including home-made Sunday Lunches – and is also home to the award-winning Yard of Ale microbrewery, established in 2008. Regular events include weekly Darts and Dominoes, monthly live entertainment, barbecues, race nights, fund-raisers and its very own Hallowe’en Beer Festival. There is a pool table in the lounge and Big Screen Sky Sports in the bar. Most importantly, everyone is made to feel welcome and newcomers are always encouraged to try the ever-changing range of Yard of Ale and guest beers and ciders. - Alan Hogg, Joint Licensee
