It is with great sadness that CAMRA Durham has to announce the passing of member Mike Ryder (photo: front right), who died last week after contracting Covid-19. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
Over recent years, Mike had been an enthusiastic and committed supporter of our campaigning activities, and a keen participant in our social events – even if he did have a habit of getting a pint just as the bus was due. Mike’s help and energy at recent beer festivals was much appreciated, and survey trips were a particular favourite of his, particularly those that headed north - as this meant that he was last on and first off the bus, rather than the more frequent opposite. Mike was, to put it simply, good company, and will be sadly missed.
Under the current restrictions, attendance at the funeral is limited to a small number of immediate family, who, when such restrictions are lifted, hope to hold a Requiem Mass, to which Mike’s CAMRA friends would be very welcome, and afterwards celebrate Mike’s life over a few pints.
Mike’s family would be grateful if anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Mike could go to www.qegatesheadcharitablefunds.org.uk
On the front page of the website, top right, there is a purple box to click for making donations, and those contributing are encouraged to comment “Donation to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, in memory of Mike Ryder who passed away on Ward 25 from Covid-19"
