Blackhill brewery is a 10 barrel plant which now operates out of an industrial unit at Pelton Fell, Chester-le-Street, after its move in 2018 from its original home in Harelaw, Stanley. Chris Graham is the owner and brewer. After an initial career as a miner (which no doubt gave him the inspiration for the names of his beers) he became a civil servant. However, office life didn't suit him, so he turned to what had been a hobby as the basis of a new career. After developing his brewing skills in his free time at a Cumbrian brewery, where he had contacts, he took the decision to set up his own brewery in 2012. He brews 'on demand' as well as regular beers, which he sells in south Durham and North Yorkshire and more recently in central areas of Durham. He is committed to producing good, real ale and is always looking to produce beers with unusual ingredients, as well as his regular beers such as '70 Fathom' and 'Brass Thill'
