Head Brewer John Taylor and Brewery Owner Dave Craggs have been friends for most of their life, meeting up to take part in crazy expeditions for as long as they both can remember. In early 2008 Beamish Hall was looking to expand into the old stables to the rear of the building and create a new pub/restaurant ready for spring 2009. After a few pints of ale at the local pub John & Dave had a light bulb moment. John is a brewer, has been for the last 10 years. Dave is building a pub, why not build a pub and micro brewery! Today the Stables is a pub, restaurant and microbrewery in the grounds of Beamish Hall. An 8 barrel plant brewing 8 of our own real ales as well as seasonal beers and distributing cider for Thatchers. The brewer has incorporated Neck Oil Bitter (4.2%) from the closed Bull Lane Brewery, and has also started producing bottle-conditioned Silver Buckles. Beer list:
  • Old Miner Tommy (3.7% ABV) – Very pale golden bitter. A refreshing session ale. Available all year.
  • Beamish Hall Bitter (3.8% ABV) – Traditional Yorkshire bitter with slight toffee and green apple flavour. Available all year.
  • Coppy Lane (4.2% ABV) – An Irish stout which has a coffee and dark chocolate flavour with a hint of liquorish. Seasonal, please ask about availability.
  • Bobby Dazzler (4.2% ABV) – A golden premium made from lager malt and traditional English hops. Available all year.
  • Silver Buckles (4.4% ABV) – India pale ale. Light golden biscuit with a grapefruit finish. Available all year.
