BreweriesThe Durham Branch area includes 3 local breweries: The Durham Brewery, Hill Island and The Consett Aleworks. Each brewery has a Liason Officer who is reposnsible for communicating with the brewery and providing updates on the brewery to Branch Meetings and also to CAMRA Regional officers. Brewery Liason Officers are elected by the Branch as vacancies arise. The Durham Brewery The 14-year-old Brewery continues to produce a varied range of well-hopped ales despite the difficult trading conditions caused by a swingeing rise in taxation and the soaring cost of raw materials. As well as their cask range, beers are available in bottles and 5 litre mini-casks and sold throughout the North East. For a list of outlets, visit the website at www.durham-brewery.co.uk This is a ten barrel plant but with a 20 barrel Mash Tun for the stronger ales, four 10-barrel fermenters and three 10-barrel conditioning tanks for bottled beer with a warm room for bottle conditioning. His first brew, Miner's Gala Bitter at 3.7%, is very similiar to the defunct Cathedrals Bitter, and is sometimes available at the Beamish Mary, No Place and the Ship Inn at Middlestone Village. Michaels beers should soon be available in the Fitzgerald chain of pubson a regular basis. Consett Aleworks Consett Aleworks is a 5 barrel plant started in 2006 at the rear of the Grey Horse Pub, weekly production is usually around 15 barrels. more info can be found at http://www.thegreyhorse.co.uk/ White Hot and Red Dust will be appearing at this years Durham Beer Festival 28th-30th Aug, White Hot will also be at the GBBF this year.
